Getting Huawei modems work with Windows 7 x86 and x64

I'm writing this article while running on a newly installed Huawei E1552 modem(Globe Tattoo Broadband). Basically, modem works (perfectly) on x86 versions of Windows 7(though, it's not working after reboot, unplugging the modem, and shutdown hangs on Travelmate 6293), but if you are running x64 you need to do some workaround.  Let's get started!

  •  Attached your modem to a working system that can detect it. Then copy the installer to your USB drive, transfer the files to your x64 system.
  •  Run DataCard_Setup64.exe, if the UI doesn't get installed automatically, manually install it.
  • Download the latest driver[1], then extra Huawei_Win_Driver_3.17.00.00.rar.
  •  You need to rename Driver folder to Driver.00 for the installer to work. The Install.txt file will be able to give you a hint if in case you forgot to rename this folder.
  • Run DriverUninstall.exe and wait for at least 2 minutes. Check Install.txt file if it's no longer updating, terminate process in your Task Manager.
  •  Install again the driver by running DriverSetup.exe. It's the same process as above, terminate process if Install.txt file is no longer updating. After the installation, reboot your system and attached your modem.
  • Windows will automatically install the required drivers for your modem. But two of them (HUAWEI Mobile) will not get installed as it cannot find the appropriate driver. Don't worry you can still use your modem.
  •  Go to your Device Manager, then uninstall these two devices that are having some driver problems. Do this every time you attached your modem.
  •  You can now connect using the newly installed Huawei E1552 modem.

The method for uninstalling HUAWEI Mobile device works also with an older E220 modem. I really appreciate if you can share any tips to avoid this method. I'm going to update the driver on my other machine, and see if the new driver will be able to fix the issues on x86.

[Update]
Finally, I've got Windows 7 x86 and x64 versions working with HUAWEI E1552 modem. Though, you still need to uninstall some device to get it working on x64. And it's no longer having issues that I've told you on the first paragraph of this post.

I've also included the contents (few lines) of Install.txt after you uninstall and re-install the drivers.

Uninstall:
Info  : Remove driver file, OK.
Info  : Find device, ID: usb\vid_12d1&pid_1446&rev_0000...
Info  : SetupDiCallClassInstaller DIF_REMOVE SUC
Info  : This device is not a mass storage or composite device, so delete it.
Info  : Remove device register Info, END...
Info  : Remove device register Info, END...
Excute file: C:\Huawei_Win_Driver_3.17.00.00\..\AutoRun\AutoRunUninstall.exe
Info  : File not found, return.
Info  : Remove driver, OK.
SUC: end...

Re-install:
Info  : Copy sys file OK.
Info  : Remove device register Info, END...
Info  : Remove device register Info, END...
Excute file: C:\Huawei_Win_Driver_3.17.00.00\..\AutoRun\AutoRunSetup.exe
